Thursday, March 1, 2012

The Abendschone Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented Good Citizen Awards to senior students nominated by faculty and elected by classmates.

Winners of the awards, presented at the Eureka Springs Historical Museum, were: Diana Gonzalez (Green Forest High School); Katie Gammill (Eureka Springs High School); James C. Vaught (Clear Spring School); and Drew Fry (Berryville High School).

The students wrote a 500-word essay on "Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It; Describe the Freedoms and Responsibilities of a Good Citizen."

Students hand-wrote their essays within a two-hour time limit, using no reference material.

Gonzalez won the $100 scholarship. She plans to attend a school in Missouri and study to become a veterinarian.
