Hoop Shoot returns to Eureka Springs

Friday, January 6, 2012

The Elks Hoop Shoot will be held at the Eureka Springs Middle School gym on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 12 p.m.

The event is a free throw shooting contest for boys and girls in the following age brackets: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

Schools competing in the event include Berryville, Cassville, Eureka Springs, Green Forest, Huntsville and the Eureka Springs Sports Association.

Each school will hold their own contest to determine a winner in each of the three age brackets.

The winners from each school will then compete in Eureka to determine a champion for each division.

Winners and runners-up will receive trophies.

The winners will advance to the State Hoop Shoot in Hot Springs in February.

Those winners will then advance to the regional round in Paris, Tenn. in March. They then will head to the National Finals in Springfield, Mass. in April.

The champions in the final round will have their names inscribed on a plaque hanging at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

All expenses from the state, regionals and finals will be covered by the Elks.
