Bikers ride for Toys for Tots
CARROLL COUNTY -- Dozens of bikers bearing bundles of gifts made their way across Carroll County Saturday in their annual Toys for Tots run.
Their final destination was the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, where some 15 youngsters had gathered to meet them.
Capt. Alan Hoos, with the CCSO, said he received a phone call about a month ago from Buck Blanchard, with Pig Trail Harley Davidson in Rogers and Eureka Springs, who called to say a group of riders wanted to host a Toys for Tots ride for the children of Carroll County.
Hoos said around 1 p.m. Saturday the riders arrived in Eureka Springs where they were escorted through town by the Eureka Springs Police Department to the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 62 and Passion Play Road. There, the riders were escorted into Berryville and out to the sheriff's office, where a group of excited youngsters awaited their arrival.
Hoos said the bikers brought enough toys to share with all the youth that were pre-selected to greet them, and others who were chosen but not present.
He said the additional toys will be delivered to the Merlin Foundation in Green Forest and will be distributed from there.
"This was just hours after the annual Shop with a Cop event at the Berryville Walmart, where 46 children were invited to go shopping with a member of the Carroll County Emergency Services," said Hoos. He noted that Toys for Tots and Shop with a Cop are separate programs -- both benefitting Carroll County youth.
