Local contestants take wins at livestock judging contest

Carroll County was well represented at the Hull Cattle Ranch in Poteau, Okla. on Saturday, Nov. 5 when the Connors State College Livestock Judging Team put on a cattle judging contest.

Individuals ages 4 to 70 from Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas were present to compete in the contest.

In total, more than 500 contestants competed in the contest.

The Connors State College judges announced the results and issued a set of verbal reasons for the wins at the end of the contest.

Members of the Berryville and Green Forest FFA chapter took home high honors.

They included:

* Audrey Foster -- Green Forest FFA with 1st place in the Senior Division

* Taylor LaCour --Berryville FFA with 3rd in the Senior Division

* Stran Wagner -- Berryville 4-H chapter was 4th in the PeeWee Division

* Justin Wagner --Berryville FFA Advisor with a 1st place in the Adult Division.

The Hull Ranch and Trausch Farms presented a cattle grooming clinic to all the contestants.

The grooming clinic covered the proper feeding, exercise and show day preparations that are required for show cattle.

The Trausch Farm had their cattle fitting team prepare a show heifer for entering the ring while the crowd watched. All who attended learned new and exciting techniques from the demonstration.
