Titanic theme for Berryville banquet
BERRYVILLE -- A "Titanic" themed gala event is planned for this year's Chamber of Commerce Banquet in Berryville, set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Berryville Community Center.
The annual awards dinner will be held on the gym floor to allow more space for the hundreds of community members who are expected to attend.
Buntings will be hung from the railings above to replicate decorations on a ship, said Chamber Director Ginger Oaks, and table decorations, dinner tickets and even the entertainment and menu will follow the Titanic theme.
The dinner fare selection is taken from a Titanic "first class" menu dated April 14, 1912, said Oaks. It includes chicken lyonnaise, chateau potatoes, carrots, salad, rolls, an eclair dessert and beverages that will be served by junior chamber board members.
The guest speaker for the evening is John Joslyn, owner of Titanic Museums and attractions in both Branson, Mo., and Pigeon Forge, Tenn., now commemorating the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
"And, Joslyn is the financier of the second dive that retrieved Titanic artifacts," said Oaks. "He's a very interesting and exciting speaker."
Music for the evening will be provided by Tamara Phillips, who will be singing songs from the movie "Titanic."
Oaks said the evening promises to be "a lot of fun" and she invites everyone, including the general public, to attend this event and to dress in period costume if they wish.
Tickets are $15 each or $100 for a table of eight and must be purchased in advance from the chamber office or any chamber board member.
"We had 300 last year and we are expecting more this year," said Oaks. "It's going to be a lot of fun and we hope to have a good turnout."
