Long-time Green Forest coach quits

GREEN FOREST -- Long-time coach, teacher and athletic director Bill Gotto resigned from his post at Green Forest Schools.

His resignation was accepted during a special school board meeting Tuesday evening.

There was no action taken to replace Gotto, who had been with the district some 35 years.

Resignations were also accepted from Beverly Cameron, a special education paraprofessional and bus driver, and Julianna Tufts, the K-5 music teacher.

Hired to replace Tufts was Mark Hiblong for the music post.

Rachelle "Shelly" James and Chelsea Harris were both hired as K-5 intervention paraprofessionals after the board approved adding a new elementary intervention program position.

A proposal to distribute across-the-board bonuses to district employees was tabled until the August board meeting. It was suggested they wait so new hires, those who haven't been employed quite yet, can also benefit from the one-time bonus distribution.

Also discussed at the meeting was new seating for Grim Gym. That matter was tabled for now. Approved was a HVAC project for the gym, a WPA-era structure built in 1936.

Bids for HVAC are set to be opened at the next special board meeting, scheduled for Aug. 9.

Superintendent John Calaway offered an update on Tiger Stadium improvements, saying the track had been graded and asphalt could be laid on the track as early as Monday, which would take 10 to 20 days to cure.
