BERRYVILLE -- Donations are being sought for the annual Fishing Derby at George Pond that is hosted by Berryville Police and Carroll County officials.

This year's derby is set for Saturday, Aug. 27.

According to Det. Robert Bartos, last year they had 219 youngsters compete in the derby.

The goal is to award each participant with a prize, and to distribute grand prizes to the youngster catching the first fish, the most fish, and to those with the biggest fish in three age groups.

He said they managed to have enough prizes for everyone last year despite the record turnout and they hope to have enough prizes again this year.

Anyone who wants to contribute can contact Bartos or any other officer at the Berryville Police Department by calling (870) 423-3343.

They can also contact the following county officials: Candy Bawcom or Susie Jordon at the 911 Coordination Office at 423-4357; or Greg Hill at the county judge's office at 423-2967.

Derby hours on Aug. 27 will be from 9-10:30 a.m., with registration to begin at 8 a.m.

All youth ages 1 through 15 are eligible to participate. George Pond will be stocked with catfish the night before, provided by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
