Green Forest school board seat vacant
GREEN FOREST -- One more school board seat has been added to the list of races set to appear on Sept. 20 school election ballots.
Initially it was reported there was only one race in the Green Forest School District.
Election officials now say there are two races. Besides the Zone 5 seat currently held by Michael Grigg -- the Zone 2 seat also needs to be decided.
Zone 2 was held by Cheryl Howard until she resigned after moving out of the district. Dianna Sturtz was appointed to the seat Nov. 17, 2010.
According to state election law, those appointed to fill a vacated school board seat are only to serve until the next scheduled annual school election.
In addition, whoever is elected to the Zone 2 seat will only serve the remainder of Howard's original term, which expires in 2014.
Other races across the county include Berryville "at-large" positions currently held by Jack Edens and Joe Ward, and Eureka Springs Position 1 currently held by Deborah Smith, Position 2 held by Rusty Windle, and Position 7 held by Kristie Drebenstedt.
The filing period for school board seats begins July 15 and concludes at noon on July 22.
