Fire on the Mountain needs help

Tuesday, June 7, 2011 ~ Updated 11:46 AM

BERRYVILLE -- Organizers of the annual July 4th fireworks celebration "Fire on the Mountain" are asking for the community's help to cover the cost of fireworks, priced at $5,000.

"All other costs will be donated and even the fireworks company has kicked in a good discount -- knowing that the economy is still straining," said Berryville Chamber of Commerce Director Ginger Oaks.

"If you drive around Berryville on the evening of July 4th, you will see the town is full of visitors, which is great for the business community."

She said it also provides a wonderful event for families to get together and enjoy.

"If it is possible for you to donate any amount to this effort, it will be greatly appreciated," she said.

Should the event somehow not come together, she said donations would be returned.

To donate, call Rex Wisdom at (870) 423-3377, Tim Poynter at 423-3247 or Oaks at 423-3704.

She said donations will be picked up, or people can send checks made out to the City of Berryville, mailed to PO Box 402, Berryville, AR 72616, with a notation that the donation is for fireworks.

"We need to gather this as soon as possible to lock in the fireworks contract," Oaks added. "Thank you for whatever you might be able to do."
