Monks chant accompaniment

Tuesday, May 10, 2011
Chanter Tsering Wangchuk (front) was one of five Buddhist monks from Derpung Loseling visiting the Eureka Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Sunday morning. The monks chanted while members of the congregation received blessings. They were part of a group accompanying the Dalai Lama, who will be in Fayetteville Wednesday, May 11. The monks, from the Mystical Arts of Tibet, were constructing The Mandala of Avalokitesvara (bodhisattva of compassion) at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. The construction of the mandala is open to the public daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through May 12, when a closing ceremony at 3 p.m. will see the monks sweep up the colored sands to symbolize the impermanence of all that exists.
