Master Gardeners pitch in

Friday, April 8, 2011
A group of fifth graders were weeding the garden at the Walker-Floyd Outdoor Learning Classroom, located at Berryville Intermediate School, when a group of Master Gardeners visited Tuesday, including (from left) John Hutchcroft, Will Schell Lavonna Schell, Jean Erickson and Jennifer Hudspeth. They were standing in front of a water tower that is under construction. Once completed, filtered rainwater will be pumped to the tank using wind and solar power. From there, the water will gravity-flow to irrigate the garden below. The Master Gardeners are now "Friends of the Outdoor Classroom," meaning they will help the students design and plan projects. In the past they helped with the butterfly garden, rock-bordered flower beds, and with landscaping at the K-3 building. Anna Mathews / CCN
