Jesse Jay Stamps
Jesse Jay Stamps, a resident of Berryville, AR, was born November 1, 1930 in Kingston, AR, a son of Jesse Preston and Grace Evalene (Carter) Stamps. He departed this life Thursday, December 16, 2010 in Fayetteville, AR, at the age of 80.
Jesse attended Kingston Schools and also Perry Trade School in Yakima, WA. He served on the USS Chevalier DD 805 and in Japan during the Korean War from January 11, 1951-November 5, 1954. He owned and operated Jesse's Auto Body & Paint in Yakima, WA in the 1950s and owned Jesse's Auto Body Repair in Prosser, WA from 1975-1992. Jesse enjoyed restoring older cars, raising cattle and riding horses. For a number of years, he took part in an equestrian group in the Labor Day States Day Parade in Prosser, WA. He was a life member of Euclid Lodge #125, F&AM and Sunshine Chapter #94, Order of the Eastern Star in Prosser, WA. He also served three times as Worthy Patron of Sunshine Chapter. On October 24, 1972 Jesse was united in marriage with Neta Sue (Osgood) Stamps in Rochester, MN. They moved to the Prosser, WA area where they resided until moving to Berryville, AR in 1992.
He is survived by his wife Neta Sue Stamps of the home; Uncle Jess Carter of Berryville, AR; brothers, Jim Stamps and wife Doris of Chelan, WA, Guy Stamps and wife Rebecca of Raymore, MO and Joe Stamps and wife Mary of East Wenatchee, WA; daughter, Glenna and husband Rod Altman of Grandview, WA; son, Rodger Stamps and partner Ted Seachord of Sebring, FL; granddaughters, Sarah and Sam Moritzky of Prosser, WA and Hannah and Rich Schneider of Stanwood, WA; two great-granddaughters; five great-grandsons; his first wife, Donna McNabb of Grandview, WA; aunts, Mrs. Helen Stamps of Berryville, AR and Mrs. Ava Mae Stamps of Kingston, AR; six cousins; six nieces; three nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse P. and Grace E. Stamps of Chelan, WA; sister, Kay Stamps; uncles, Otto Stamps and Combs Stamps both of Kingston, AR and Eldred Stamps and Fred Carter both of Berryville, AR; aunt, Mrs. Dalton "Lizzie" Parker of Kingston, AR; cousins, Larry Stamps of Eureka Springs, AR, Jessie Mae Stamps of Fayetteville, AR, James, Fred and J. B. Parker all of Kingston, AR.
