Parking pull-out leaves ES in the lurch
EUREKA SPRINGS -- Carroll County Judge Sam Barr sent a certified letter to Eureka Springs Mayor Dani Joy Wednesday morning dropping the contract with the city on the courthouse parking lot, effective immediately,
"Our contract says the county must give us 30 days notice," Joy said, "and I think that's what Barr meant, but it doesn't read that way.
"We own some of the 48-or-so spaces, and bring in about $50,000 a year from ours and the county's. Out of that we maintain, clean and enforce the lot and send the county $19,500. It's also a drop-off point for buses. I'm not sure the county realizes that First Street cuts through the middle.
"What if there's an accident there? We would have to wait for the county to respond. The way it is now, we lease from the county, so our PD responds. This puts us in a precarious position."
Joy said she will meet with Barr Monday morning.
