Lady Tigers win opener

The basketball season got off on a winning note for the Green Forest Lady Tigers Saturday.

Playing against Lead Hill in the Flippin Invitational tournament, the Lady Tigers ran away with a 71-31 victory.

The score was tied at 16 after the first quarter, but then Green Forest took over the game.

Coach Kyle Farrar said, "We started playing defense in the second quarter." That led to some easy baskets in transition, and the floor began opening up for the Lady Tiger shooters at the same time.

"They had some big kids, but what we lack in size we make up for in speed," Farrar said.

The smothering man-to-man defense led to a 46-23 halftime lead and a 62-25 lead after three quarters.

The clock ran continuously in the fourth quarter.

Nikki Mullen led the Lady Tigers with 21 points, followed by Kaitlin Powell with 14, Codee Powell with 12, and Lindsey Savage with 11.

The tournament bracket pits the Lady Tigers against Kingston in the second round Wednesday.
