Silas Leon Larimer

Silas Leon Larimer, 81, of La Puente, CA, formerly of Green Forest, AR died at his home October 12 where he had been in Hospice care for a short time.

He was born November 11, 1929 in Cherryvale, KS and moved with his family to Green Forest in 1941. He graduated from Green Forest High School in 1947. While in high school, he worked as a printer at the Green Forest Tribune. He was working there when his older brother, Ted Larimer, purchased the newspaper in 1946 shortly after the close of World War II.

After graduation from high school Mr. Larimer served in the Merchant Marines from 1948 to 1952. He followed that experience by serving an enlistment in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956.

He married Mercedes (Meche) Larimer in 1954 in New York City, who survives him. He worked as a printer for a short time in the Bronx before the couple moved to Southern California in 1957 where he again entered the printing business and continued to work in that business until his retirement in 2000.

In addition to his widow, survivors include their three children, Daniel Larimer of La Puente, Dana Aucoin of Annapolis, MD, and Diana Hintz of Oceanside, CA and several grandchildren.

He is also survived by an older brother, Ted Larimer of Green Forest; a sister, Jane Ellis of Green Forest, and a brother, Max Larimer of Topeka, KS, in addition to several nieces, nephews and a host of friends who mourn his passing.
