Charles Roy Crawford
Charles Roy Crawford, 87, of Eureka Springs, died on August 21, 2010. He was born on February 1, 1923, in Paterson, NJ, the son of Robert Lee and Elsie (Shultz) Crawford.
Mr. Crawford was a loving husband and father. He was a flight engineer in the 3508th Army Air Force in the 3rd Bomber Division in 1944 and 1945. He received the European African Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, one overseas service bar, Good Conduct Medal and Air Medal GO #961 with a four oak leaf cluster.
On May 15, 1946 he was united in marriage to Nellie Jean Norman in Patterson, NJ. The family moved to Eureka Springs in 1960. He was the builder and owner of the Red Fox Lodge, which sold in 1978. He then worked for the H.I.S.I.D. as a mechanic and welder until his retirement.
He is survived by one sister, Wilma Zimmer; one son and daughter-in-law, John Crawford and Gloria Botner Crawford; one daughter and son-in-law, Ellen Crawford DePrat and husband Paul; two grandchildren Cheryl Crawford Hilburn and husband Cliff, Cindy Crawford McElroy and husband Travis; three great-grandchildren Jessica Hilburn, Monica Hilburn and Liam McElroy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Robert Crawford Jr., and wife Nellie Jean Crawford.
