Wildlife refuge opening leopard habitat

Friday, July 16, 2010

Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge will soon open a new habitat specifically built for leopards. The grand opening will be July 17 at 11 a.m.

The nonprofit organization raised more than $40,000 in donations for materials for the project. To save money, staff members handled the construction.

The new habitat is more extensive than any others at the refuge. Since it is intended specifically for leopards, it includes a heated and cooled building.

The leopards' new abode received a few finishing touches last week in preparation for the July 17 opening.
