County Soccer update
CARROLL COUNTY -- The Tiger boys and girls soccer teams played at 7A Rogers on Friday, with the boys taking a controversial 1-0 loss.
Officials invalidated two goals by David Beas when they said one player's arm was offside, and another rule was confused.
Tiger coach Juan ZuaZua questioned the calls, saying, "This is not what the rule says. The second decision was made because another official misunderstood one of the soccer rules."
Zuazua did say, "I am satisfied with the outcome of the game. Losing 0-1 in those conditions is a winner to us. Also it was a friendly game and we are getting ready for the real divisional games.
"The best player was Daniel Garfias, our goal keeper. He put an unbreakable wall in his goal. Baltazar Lemus, even with a non-functional knee, also played very well.
"Kevin Guerrero is showing great determination. David Rios is becoming our defensive ace, and together with Jonathan Yac, is going to form a very tough defensive line," Zuazua said.
JV Girls Battle
Berryville soccer coach Don Earnest reported that the Berryville and Green Forest JV girls played on Thursday, with both teams scoring two goals. Makayla Smith and Jody King scored goals for the Lady Bobcats.
"The Berryville girls played hard and played really well the second half," Earnest said. "We fell behind 2-0 in the first half, made a couple of mistakes, and they were able to take advantage of that.
"The second half I felt like we controlled play and were able to get a couple of shots to go in for us. If we can ever get off to a better start we will be okay. We continue to fall behind early and have to fight our way back.
"The girls are getting better and that is the goal here early in the season, to continue to improve," Earnest said.
