Helping Hands seeks donations to replenish Food Pantry

Friday, February 26, 2010

--Helping Hands Community Food Pantry in Eagle Rock, Mo. was very busy in recent weeks. During the month of January, food, toiletries, and household supplies were provided to 35 families consisting of 73 adults and 29 children.

The needs are increasing due to several factors. People are losing their jobs. Others still have their jobs, but their hours have been reduced significantly. Some have had an increase in household size, often due to a relatives losing their jobs or losing their homes to foreclosure.

The pantry's current needs include peanut butter, jelly, soup (other than tomato), pancake mix, pancake syrup, oatmeal, and toilet paper. Monetary donations are always helpful, as the pantry uses the money to purchase perishable food items and to replenish basic food supplies.

Donations of food may be dropped off at the food pantry during operating hours, or at any of the churches involved in this ministry, as well as the Eagle Rock Library, Community Connections Thrift Store, or Eagle Rock/Golden/Mano Fire Department (on the second Saturday of each month). Monetary donations may be mailed to Helping Hands Community Food Pantry, 29497 State Highway 86, Eagle Rock, MO 65641.

The food pantry is run by volunteers. To become a volunteer, or for more information, call Joann Peck at (417) 271-3553.
