Saints lucky at end of key senior boys game
BERRYVILLE -- After leading for the entire game against the Shiloh Christian Saints on Monday, the Berryville Bobcats threw an errant pass in the final seconds and saw a 4A-1 Conference game slip away.
With the game tied at 47-all with 40 seconds to go, Berryville was holding and the Saints were chasing.
"We threw it away and Shiloh made a layup at the buzzer," a disappointed Brent Compton, Bobcat coach, said about the 47-49 loss. "We led the entire game, then broke down at the end. Eight of our 11 losses have been by six points or less."
The Lady Bobcats led the first quarter 10-5 and were in the game, 16-22, at the half, but the break left them flat and Shiloh rallied for a 61-35 win.
Senior High Boys

An injured K.J. Phillips shook of knee and wrist problems and scored 20 for Berryville (10-11, 4-6), with seven players scoring. Berryville was 20 of 31 at the line, but missed in the fourth when it counted.
"We did a great job on their two leading scorers," Coach Compton said. "Caleb Price was on Eichler and he didn't score until the fourth quarter. And John Howerton held David Matthews to nine points.
"Garrett Griffith and Alex Dowdle did a great job on the boards -- they're both physical -- and K.J. showed a lot of toughness playing with injuries. He's really beat up."

"We played a heck of a first half," Coach Kristin Whetham said. "We pressed and got some turnovers and steals. Then Shiloh hit a three at the halftime buzzer to go up by six."
The Lady Bobcats (8-13, 2-8) only gave the ball up a few times to Shiloh's press the first half, but forgot what to do the second.
"We talked about that at halftime, then they pressed us in the third quarter and we threw it right to them," Whetham said. "They hit two threes and outscored us 9-21 that quarter.
"I thought Jennifer McCullough played well, blocked out and rebounded, and Allison Winkle stepped up and made some shots the first half."
