It's not ice - it's soft rime

Friday, February 5, 2010
Freezing conditions and heavy fog overnight in the last several days have caused what is known as "soft rime" to form on solid objects around the county. The white needles form when vapor condenses to water droplets and freezes to a surface, usually tree branches or wires, in fog with calm air or light wind. Kathryn Lucariello / CCN
