Filing period for November election begins March 1

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

CARROLL COUNTY -- Anyone interested in running for county or city offices in November must make a decision soon.

The filing period runs from noon on Monday, March 1, to noon the following Monday, March 8.

During that week, representatives of the Democratic and Republican parties will be present in the offices of the county clerk. They will assist candidates with the filing process.

Although independents will not run in the May 18 primary election, they still have to file during the first week of March. Independents also must submit a petition, carrying the names of at least three percent of the number of voters in the county, district, or township who voted in the last gubernatorial election.

All county offices have two-year terms, so all those office-holders will be up for re-election in the fall. Election day is Nov. 2.

More information about filing for county or city offices is available through Bethe Henley at the county clerk's office, (870) 423-2022.
