Eureka Springs man wanted by eight agencies is arrested

Friday, January 15, 2010
EUREKA SPRINGS -- A rural Eureka Springs man wanted by eight separate agencies in two states was taken into custody near Lampe, Mo., on Monday.

Jimmy W. Elliott, 38, is accused of vehicle theft, larceny, theft, parole violation and other charges in Missouri, and faces vehicle theft charges here for allegedly paying for a Jaguar with a hot check and driving it away.

Investigator Ralph Gordon, with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, said he has been working with the other agencies the past five months in an attempt to put Elliott behind bars.

Elliott is wanted by Taney, Stone, Barry, Christian and Newton county agencies in Missouri, he said, along with Jefferson City officials, and Benton and Carroll county authorities in Arkansas.

He said the rural Eureka Springs man is also "a person of interest" in an armed robbery case that took place last fall at the Rapid Robert's store on U.S. Hwy. 65 at the Missouri/Arkansas state line.

He said Elliott operates under a number of aliases, all deviations of his given name, and he has six felony warrants from six jurisdictions.

He was captured at a Stone County, Mo., residence Monday by Stone County deputies, Gordon said. His wife was also arrested on an outstanding warrant and another female was arrested at the residence on drug charges.

Gordon said Carroll County authorities have put a hold on Elliott, but because he is wanted in other jurisdictions, it is unlikely he will face local charges any time soon.

The Jaguar he took here, Gordon noted, was returned to its rightful owner.
