Charlie James Garner

Charlie James Garner, resident of Berryville, AR, born October 5, 1919 in Blount County, AL, son of Fred Leroy and Mattie (Holmes) Garner. He departed this life Thursday, November 12, 2009 at his home in Berryville, at the age of 90.

Mr. Garner worked for Kraft Foods for nearly 20 years. He was a carpenter for several years before buying Garner's Drive In. In his retirement years he was known as "the watermelon man". He also sold sorghum and honey and visited all around the area. Charlie was a deacon of the Grandview Baptist Church. He accepted Jesus as his Savior in 1954 and has lived for the Lord ever since.

On March 31, 1944, Charlie was united in marriage with Frances Delilah Butler who survives him of the home. He is also survived by four daughters, Barbara and husband Lonnie Usrey of Carrollton, AR, Sandra and husband Bill Beeson, Frances and husband Sherman Ross and Charlene Elkins and Dana Jones all of Berryville, AR; one son, Kenny Garner of Berryville, AR; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Marie Sherrill of Courtland, AL; a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Charles Leroy Garner.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 2009, Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 16 2009, Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel with Brother Billy McCall and Brother Bob Neely officiating. Interment will follow in the Farmer Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service, Inc.
