BERRYVILLE -- After just one year on the job coaching with the Berryville Bobcats, Jack Dickey has taken a job at Blue Eye, Mo., coaching baseball.
"I'm retiring and drawing my teacher retirement in August, then going to Blue Eye to teach science and coach baseball," Dickey said. "It's a great opportunity for me. I can draw retirement in Arkansas and a salary in Blue Eye.
"We'll stay in Berryville and not move, and my wife, Lisa, will still teach at the middle school."
Dickey said he heard about the job from a pro scout, who told him about the opening.
"I'll coach baseball in the fall and spring," he said. "We'll play 16-18 games in the fall and two tournaments, and about the same in the spring. Missouri starts spring baseball a month later than Arkansas, which is good up here."
Dickey was head junior high football coach and a high school assistant, and helped with soccer.
"We had a great year," Dickey said about his 12 months at Berryville. "We've got a group of eighth and ninth graders coming up in football that had a great off-season.
"I thought we could win seven or eight games this year, if they stay healthy and are eligible.
"I also had a good time with soccer. The kids worked hard. I worked with some good people, some good coaches. The coaches worked hard. And I worked with a great principal, Matt Summers at the middle school."
The coaching staff shuffled when Dickey resigned, with Don Earnest now head junior high football and also head soccer coach.
Josh Nation moved from head junior high basketball to assistant football coach and head football coach Bobby Bishop added strength and conditioning coach to his duties.
The replacement for Dickey will be head junior high basketball coach, and assistant in football and soccer.
