Carroll County News

BERRYVILLE -- Long-time Berryville Mayor Tim McKinney has been ordered to serve 39 days in the Carroll County Detention Center beginning Friday at 6 p.m.

The order was handed down in Berryville District Court Tuesday morning when Judge Marianne McBeth ruled on a sentence revocation hearing initiated by Carroll County Prosecuting Attorney Tony Rogers.

Rogers pursued the revocation of suspended sentences accepted by McKinney last August when he pleaded guilty to DWI and marijuana possession charges that arose from a traffic stop for speeding.

Rogers said when McKinney was arrested by Washington County authorities in March of this year for DWI and marijuana possession he had violated the conditions of his suspended sentence by reoffending within a year.

At Tuesday's hearing, McBeth ordered McKinney to serve the 30 days that was originally suspended for the marijuana possession charge, and nine days suspended on the DWI charge.

In response to a request made by McKinney's attorney, McBeth delayed the start of his jail time so he could attend required drug and alcohol screenings scheduled this week, and to appear in Washington County court on Friday to face the DWI and marijuana possession charges there.

This is 2 times that Mayor McKinney has broken the law in the same way. I dont think a person that breaks the law should get to be in our county govermentI I think hs or she should have to resign or get fired. Mr. McKinney sure is a good excample for our young people.

I agree with britegreengal. When he broke the law the 1st time you would figure he wouldnt do it again. But doing it again 2nd time that kinda tells ya..duh. I feel that the county should resign him but if they dont then they are stupid not doing it. makes everyone wonders from him being in jail is he getting good treatments cause he is a mayor still.
