BERRYVILLE -- A two-vehicle head-on collision Monday afternoon east of Berryville claimed the lives of two local residents, 60 year-old Betty Webb and 45 year-old Raphael Mabry, both of Berryville.
Injured was 28 year-old Mary Mabry, the wife of Raphael Mabry. She is reportedly recovering from injuries at a Missouri medical facility.
According to a report prepared by State Trooper Joshua Arnold, the accident occurred at 4:20 p.m. on U.S. Hwy. 62, 2.8 miles east of Berryville.
He said Mary Mabry, driving a 1992 Ford Tempo westbound on Hwy. 62, crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2001 Hyundai Elantra driven by Webb.
Raphael Mabry, a passenger in the Tempo, was pronounced deceased at the scene, the report stated. Webb was transported by ambulance to St. John's Hospital -- Berryville. Mary Mabry was airlifted by helicopter to St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
The weather was clear and the roadway dry, Arnold said in his report.
Responding to the accident were Berryville volunteer firefighters, Green Forest volunteer firefighters and first responders, Carroll County Sheriff's Department personnel, and Berryville police.
Traffic on the busy highway was at a standstill for more than an hour.
A dog from the Mabry vehicle reportedly escaped injury and was tended to by a Berryville volunteer firefighter at the scene. It was then transported by a CCSO deputy to a veterinarian for safekeeping until arrangements could be made for placement with a Mabry family member.
