Earl J. Umland
Earl J. Umland, a resident of Eureka Springs, AR, was born May 13, 1915 in Chicago Heights, IL, a son of William and Louise (Neiman) Umland. He departed this life Tuesday, May 12, 2009, in Eureka Springs, AR at the age of 93.
Mr. Umland was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Berryville. He was also a member of the Lions Club in Chicago Heights and Meals on Wheels in Arkansas. He was the owner/operator of two motels in Eureka Springs, Swiss Holiday and Colonial Mansion.
On February 14, 1940 he was united in marriage with Elaine Marie Hogeveen who survives him of the home. He is also survived by two daughters, Darlene Burmeister of Dallas, TX and Gail and husband Jim Ballard of Chicago Heights, IL; one son, Earl "Bud" Umland and wife Robin of Huntsville, AR; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wilmer Umland and one son, Bill Umland.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, 2009 at the Nelson's Chapel of the Springs in Eureka Springs. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Berryville with Reverend David Rubke and Reverend Kenneth Haydon officiating.
