KENNETH L. STAHLY, 80, of Shell Knob, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2009, at the Red Rose Inn in Cassville, Mo. He was born on April 17, 1928, in Gridley, Ill. to the late Clyde and Lucille Stahly.

Mr. Stahly was raised in Gridley, attending school and being active in sports. He graduated from Gridley High School in 1946. After graduating, he spent one year at I.S.N.U., majoring ing Math and Physical Education. In 1948 he joined the Air Force where he spent the next 14 years. During the Korean War he served in the Phillipines. While stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., on June 12, 1954 he married Marilyn Dean. They moved to Bucks County area in Pennsylvania in 1962. There, he and Marilyn raised, trained, and showed Labrador Retrievers and English Springer Spaniels along with field trails and gun dog work. They were Charter Members of the Waterland Retriever Club, which has now grown to more than 2,000 members. In 1982, Ken retired from Curtis 1,000 and moved to Eureka Springs, where he bought a small coffee and tea shop that Marilyn operated while Ken went into real estate. They made their final move to Shell Knob, in 2007.

Marilyn preceded him in death on June 6, 2008. Survivors include one daughter, Susan Munson, and her husband, Don, of Golden, Mo.; one son, Mark Stahly, and his wife, Nancy, of Cooperburg, Pa.; one brother, Lonnie Stahly, and his wife, Donna, of Ravenna, Ohio; two sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Hunt, and her husband, Don, of Flossmoor, Ill., and Frances Dean of Schaumburg, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Kay Stahly. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Gridley, Ill..
