Harley M. Phillips, Jr.
HARLEY M. PHILLIPS, JR., 85, of West Monroe, La., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, in West Monroe. He was born Dec. 28, 1922, to Harley M. Phillips, Sr. and Viola Phillips in Altus.
Harley grew up in the Arkansas River Valley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and participated in many battles in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. After the war, he married Lucille Brady of Ozark, and soon after their marriage they moved to California.
Harley and Lucille lived and worked in California until they retired in 1975, when they moved to Berryville. Harley lived in Berryville until the death of Lucille in 2001, after which he lived with his son in Crossett and West Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Lucille; a brother, Jimmy Phillips of Visalia, Calif.; and a sister, Sara Tollison, also of Visalia. He is survived by one son, David Phillips of West Monroe, La.; one sister, Alice Tollison of Ivanhoe, Calif.; one brother, Mickey Phillips of Visalia, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at Liberty Hill Cemetery in Hunt, Ark. under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left for the family at shafferfuneralhomeweb.com.
