140 years -- or is it 154?

First Baptist Church of Green Forest will celebrate its 140th annviersary of its formation in 1868 on Oct. 19. Organized in 1854 in a log cabin near where First United Methodist is now, it was abandoned during the Civil War and reorganized in 1868. The all-day event will start with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., and will include a covered dish lunch around noon. Former pastors will be recognized and given time to speak if they desire, and historical highlghts of the church will be given. The longest serving members will also be recognized, and a book covering the history of the church will be available. All are encouraged to attend, and the wearing of period clothing is suggested.
