Man facing felony robbery charge in Walmart incident

Thursday, October 9, 2008
BERRYVILLE -- A 27-year-old Berryville man was arrested for felony robbery for allegedly "showing force or the threat of force" when loss prevention officers at Walmart attempted to detain him for shoplifting.

Police say Ian Mathew Brindley attempted to leave the store without paying for make-up and an Iron Man video and resisted apprehension when approached.

Bob Bouly, a reserve sergeant with the Berryville Police Department, said he and Officer Daniel Crawford responded to a call for help at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Upon their arrival, Bouly said they went to the loss prevention office where Brindley was being detained by three Walmart employees.

He said Brindley was intoxicated and denying the theft. He said Brindley was handcuffed and while they were on their way out of the store with him, Brindley was cussing and "carrying on."

He said Brindley was belligerent during transport to jail, and during the booking procedure.

Bouly said Brindley is facing felony robbery, public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges.BERRYVILLE -- A 27-year-old Berryville man was arrested for felony robbery for allegedly "showing force or the threat of force" when loss prevention officers at Walmart attempted to detain him for shoplifting.
