VERNIE WALKER, a resident of Berryville, was born Jan. 5, 1934, in Walnut Ridge, a son of Ollie D. and Nora (Hart) Walker. He died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008, in his home, at the age of 74.
Mr. Walker was of the Freewill Baptist faith.
On Nov. 29, 1952, he was united in marriage with Patsy Manus, who survives him of the home. He is also survived by one son, Tony Walker and wife Lana of Eureka Springs; one daughter, Terri Harp of Eureka Springs; two sisters, Elsie Cohen and Elean Woodard both of St. Louis, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Jill Walker Holloway, Travis Walker, Justin Harp, Tony Joe Walker, Joel Walker, Chris Harp, B.J. Allee, and Amanda Lindsey; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Walker and Gary Bo Walker; his parents; four brothers, Richard, Elmer, Everett and Billy Walker; and three sisters, Lois, Alice and Thelma.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville with Brother Rudy Sanchez officiating. Interment followed in the Eureka Springs Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
