Lady Bobcats win Silver at Slamfest, Lady Tigers second to county rival
SPRINGDALE -- The Green Forest Lady Tigers and Berryville Lady Bobcats both played in the Shiloh Christian Slam-Fest volleyball tournament last Saturday at the All-Star Sports Arena, and met each other in the finals of the Silver bracket.
The championship match went down to the wire, with Berryville winning the first game 25-16, and Green Forest the second, 25-22, to force a third game.
It was close, tied at 11-11, before Berryville took an overtime 16-14 win and the first place trophy.
"I was proud of them, glad to win first place," Coach Kristin Smith said.
Both teams started out in pool play, with Berryville losing to Prairie Grove 11-25, 20-25, and Lavaca, 18-25, 9-25, before beating Gentry 25-19, 25-8.
That put them in the Silver bracket facing Farmington after the Lady Cardinals defeated Alpena in their first game.
Berryville lost the first game, 16-25, then won 25-23 and 15-1. Megan Gibbins served out the third game from point two on, and they were in the championship game against Green Forest.
The Berryville JV squad also played and had three games in pool play, then beat Gentry's varsity before losing to Green Forest in the semifinals.
The Lady Tigers started pool play with a loss to Gravette, a win over Alpena, then a loss to Union Christian Academy, putting them in the Silver bracket.
Green Forest got a bye, then defeated the Berryville JV to reach the championship game.
"We played better than the last time we played them," Coach Trista Killingsworth said.
