MARIETTA EDENS, a resident of Green Forest, was born Jan. 25, 1912, in Green Forest, a daughter of John and Sarah Myrtle (Cummins) Hancock. She died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, in Berryville, at the age of 96.

Mrs. Edens was a graduate of the University of Arkansas and also had an advanced degree from Louisiana State University. She was a county librarian in Arkansas, Louisiana and California, and retired as a school librarian in Green Forest. She was active in the United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by two sons, Jack Edens and wife Sharon of Berryville, and Jim Edens and wife Ruth of Ventura, Calif.; three grandchildren, Ann and husband Tom Dowd and their two children of Camarillo, Calif.; Wes Edens and wife Melanie and their three children of Glendale, Ariz., and Susan Edens of Clarksville; two step-grandchildren, David Shue and Cathy Ellis and their families; two sisters, Getha Shoemake of Kingman, KS and Jane and husband Charles Maxwell of Louisburg, Kan.; four nieces; two nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ms. Edens was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Edens, Sr.; and one brother, John Hancock.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at the Berryville United Methodist Church with Pastor Skip French officiating. Interment followed in the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
