Early voting for school elections gets underway next Tuesday

Friday, September 5, 2008

BERRYVILLE -- Early voting for upcoming school elections is set to get underway next Tuesday, Sept. 9 at both county courthouses.

Election day voting will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m., at the Green Forest United Methodist Church, and at the Berryville Community Center.

There will be no poll open for Eureka Springs School District patrons since there are no contested races on that ballot. Eureka patrons wanting to cast ballots for uncontested school board candidates can do so by absentee and early vote.

Green Forest School District patrons will be asked to choose between Bud (Ivan) Phillips and Amy Holtkamp for an at-large seat currently held by Byron Russ.

Jerry King is running unchallenged for the Green Forest Zone 1 seat currently held by departing board member Brian Ayers.

Berryville patrons will decide between Jay Taff and Sharon Ary, both seeking the Zone 4 seat currently held by Sam Eaves.

In Eureka Springs, no one stepped up to challenge the three incumbent school board members who are seeking repeat terms.

In preparation for school elections, logistic and accuracy testing for early vote electronic voting machines took place Wednesday, Sept. 3.

Election officials have scheduled logistic and accuracy testing of voting day electronic machines and the 650 ballot counter. Those public tests will take place at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, at the Carroll County Clerk's Office in Berryville.
