Tuesday, August 19, 2008 ~ Updated 1:28 PM

With the deadline for filing for municipal seats less than a week away, three political newcomers have already stepped up to seek Eureka Springs council seats.

As of Monday, Mickey Schneider had filed for the Ward I, Position I seat currently held by Rae Hahn.

Both Alvin Byrd and Charles Wofford filed for the Ward 2, Position 2 seat currently held by Kathy Harrison.

Two others also filed in Eureka Springs.

They include former council member and past mayoral hopeful Beverly Blankenship who is seeking the Ward 3, Position 2 seat currently held by Eric Scheunemann.

Also, incumbent Alderman Joyce Zeller has filed for a repeat term as the Ward 3, Position I representative.

In Berryville, three of the four incumbent aldermen have filed for repeat terms so far.

They include Joel Gibson, Sally Phillips, and Cindy George. Only Linda Riddlesburger had not filed as of Monday morning.

Also, no one had filed for Green Forest City Council seats.

Those seeking municipal seats have until noon on Tuesday, Aug. 26, to turn in their paperwork. The Carroll County Election Commission is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. that day to certify candidates for municipal races.
