He was a farmer, a Baptist and veteran of the Vietnam War, serving in the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He was a member of American Legion Post #230 at Kingston.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Bates Austin, of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Timothy Lynn Austin of Texas, and Spencer Ray and Gina Austin, of Harrison; three daughters and one son-in-law, Tamara Dawn Austin, of Durant, Okla., Ladonna Marie Moore, of Fort Smith, and Michelle Lee and Lee Baker, of Kingston; one brother, Danny Austin, of Kingston; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one nephew; and three nieces.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Hoyt officiating. Internment was in Kingston Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home, www. brashearsfuneralhome.net, of Huntsville. Pallbearers were Ricky Austin, Robbie Kesner, Jason Nimmo, Joe Jordan, Danny Wayne Goff, and Bill Eggert. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Owens, Roger Kesner, Doug Burk and Donald Burk.
