Mr. Benton attended Tulsa University for two years and retired from the United States Marine Corps. He worked for many years as a postal clerk for the Yellville Post Office. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fleet Reserve Association. Heattended St. Anne's Catholic Church in Berryville and was a charter member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Yellville.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; two sons, John Benton of Spartanburg, S.C., and Tom Benton of Melissa, Texas; four daughters, Margaret Luckey of Hilton Head Island, S.C., Ann Nordgren of Duluth, Minn., Janie Jackson of Eureka Springs, and Patti Hargrove of Tulsa, Okla.; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Fern Benton of Flippin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Joe, Jay, Floyd, Vernon and Bert Benton.
Visitation was held on Thursday, June 26, at Burns Funeral Home with the Liturgy of the Word at 7:30 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Yellville with Father Gregory Hart officiating. Interment will follow at Peel Cemetery.
Pallbearers are his grandsons, Kenny Wilson, Ben Luckey, Tyler Sanders, Buddy Parker, Chris Parker, Jacob Benton, Paul Hargrove.
