31st Shaddox Wagon Train to roll through Carroll County this weekend

Friday, June 27, 2008

The 31st annual John Henry Shaddox Wagon Train is rolling through south Carroll County this weekend on its way from Harrison to Springdale and 4th of July activities at the Rodeo of the Ozarks.

More than 100 horseback riders and dozens of wagons have already departed from Harrison on six-day, 110 mile journey, which takes them through Carrollton, Rudd, Metalton, and into Madison County and parts beyond.

A number of Carroll County people participate in the annual trail ride. They camped out at Carrollton Thursday night before heading to the Fry Ranch along the Osage Creek for lunch on Friday.

The group was scheduled to camp at the Pam and Ronnie Web Farm along Piney Creek Friday night. Their journey includes stops at Fancher Ranch, Marshal Ford, War Eagle, and points westward as they make their way to Springdale for a 3 p.m. parade downtown.

Sponsored by the Harrison Round-up Club, horse enthusiasts from across the area and from several states join together for the trail ride.

Old friendships are rekindled and new acquaintances are made. All share a common bond -- the love of horses, the smell of well-worn leather, the open skies above and a journey filled with memories to last a lifetime.
