BERRYVILLE -- Seven youth teams were in Carroll County this week helping people repair flood damage.
The teams are part of some 2,800 young people from the Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, who were in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas, helping with recovery from tornado and storm damage occurring in April and May.
Among the repairs the teams took care of were wheelchair ramps, steps, handrails, interior and exterior painting, minor roofing, windows, screens, replacement of sheet rock, doors and porches, and cleaning, trash hauling and yard work.
A total of seven work sites were selected, with many recommendations coming from the Berryville Senior Center. Specific locations were kept confidential.
Persons considered for the program own their residence, or are parents who live in a home owned by a child or in a similar situations.
The services are provided free of charge, with expenses being paid by the volunteers, churches and other groups. Work teams also provide their own food and water while on the job.
A work team consists of five youth, primarily high school students, and two adults.
