She graduated from Berryville High School in 1956. Irene was employed by the Berryville Public School system for more than 41 years. She began as a teacher's aide in 1967, and worked until the last day of school in May of this year as Title 1 teacher/aid K-3.
In earlier years, she and her husband had three poultry farms and one hog finishing farm. She enjoyed arranging flowers, singing in the choir and reading. She was also a NASCAR fan. She was devoted to her family and loved teaching children. She was a member of Green Forest First Assembly of God Church.
Irene is survived by four sons, Terry Chaney of Berryville, Marty Chaney of Berryville, Randall Chaney and wife Mandi of Berryville, and Robert Chaney of Berryville; two daughters, Lisha Hobbs and husband Gary of Berryville, and Susan Ingram and husband Cortlandt of Branson, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Amber Richardson, Terra Fairweather, Bryan Chaney, Shayne Vaughn, Samantha Chaney, Michael Chaney, Kasi Chaney, Kevin Chaney; three great-grandchildren; half-brothers Junior Pinkley, James Pinkley, John Pinkley Earl Gray, Jr., and Denny Gray; and two half-sisters, Virginia Gray and Jan Pinkley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Chaney, and her parents.
Celebration of life services were held on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at Green Forest First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Bill Burris and Pastor Mark Bryant officiating. Interment was at Rule Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home.
