PAUL JAMES P.J. SMITH, 80, of Hindsville, died May 10, 2008, at the Earlene Howard Hospice Home in Springdale. He was born Oct. 3, 1927, at Hindsville, the son of Paul and Florence Jean Bandeen Smith.

He had varied careers in life as the owner of a general store, a restaurant, and had been an insurance salesman, livestock dealer, and his main love and staple, farming. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Sue Smith, his daughter by his first wife, Louise Berry Hendrix of Huntsville.

Survivors include his wife, Ana Talamantes Smith of the home, whom he married on April 27, 1985; three sons and two daughters-in-law, P.J. Smith, Jr. and Lisa Smith of Hindsville, Jerry RunnerSmith and Jean RunnerSmith of Eureka Springs, and Dwayne Allen Smith of Little Rock; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kymberly and Kerry McAlister of Fayetteville and Vidi Smith of Hindsville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, A.T. and Georgia Mae Smith and Bill and Camelia Smith, all of Hindsville; one sister, Elizabeth Coger of Fayetteville; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many friends.

Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with the Rev. Earl Dean Moris officiating. Interment was to be in the Hindsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home of Huntsville.
