Errors costly for Bobcats in varsity loss to Union Christian Academy
BERRYVILLE -- The Berryville Bobcat baseball team left eight stranded and had nine errors during an 11-0 loss to Fort Smith Union Christian on Monday in varsity action. Berryville did win a 4-inning JV game 8-5.
"We started the first, second and third innings with runners at second and third and couldn't score a run,"?Coach Mark Brigance said.
"We didn't have good contact, hit bloopers up. We needed to hit on the ground so we could score. Union Christian got five runs in the third with some timely hits. We need to play better team defense."
Pitching- Colby Singer- 6 I- 8H, 4 ER, 7K, 6W. Cody Sanders caught.
"Cody did a good job, called a good game and blocked well,"?Brigance said about Sanders. "He turned a double play, a 1-2-3, and went 2 of 3 at the plate with a single and double."
Hits- Shane Kesler- 1/3, (2); Singer- 1/3, (1); Dakota Spears- 1/3, (1); Sanders- 2/3, (1) (2).
JV game- Berryville won 8-5, with Ryan Nance hitting a double and scoring , and Garrett Griffith getting 2 RBI?singles.
"We made contact, moved people around,"?Brigance said. "Jeremy Flowers caught the game. He's coming on.
"Nance pitched two innings and Eric Holman pitched the first two innings. Eric kept the batters off balance, gave up no hits, and had four strikeouts in just two innings. Ryan gave up three hits,"?Brigance said.
