VIOLET MARIE HAYHURST, a resident of Oak Grove, was born June 28, 1902, in Oak Grove, a daughter of Jacob Ira and Myrtle Ermilla (Layman) Garris. She died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, in Berryville, at the age of 105.

Mrs. Hayhurst found the Lord at 13 years of age and served her Lord for 92 years. Violet and Warner lived and farmed in Colorado, Oklahoma and Arkansas and worked in California during the Depression and then moved from Oklahoma back to Oak Grove in 1961. She was a member of the Boyd Church of God in Oak Grove since 1961. She went on numerous bus trips to Mexico and other places. She served in ministry in Castle, Okla. and Boyd.

She is survived by five generations of nieces and nephews in Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Oregon, California, Washington and many other parts of the world. Many are proudly serving our county in the Armed Services. She is also remembered by a host of extended family and friends.

On August 4, 1920, she was united in marriage with Warner Stephen Hayhurst, who preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1969. She was also preceded by one son, Fred S. Hayhurst; one infant sister, Dorothy May Garris; four brothers, William Arlis Garris, Clyde Dotson Garris, and twins, Gay and Guy Garris.

Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at the Boyd Church of God with Rev. Les Robinson and Rev. Dale Merideth officiating. Interment will follow in the Hale Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
