John Wesley Hammons, 91-year-old resident of Siloam Springs, died Jan. 6, 2008, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital. Born April 8, 1916, in Metalton, he was the son of William Vern Hammons and Eva Hudspeth Hammons. John was a self-employed mechanic and dump truck driver. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Burgess Hammons, in 2007.

Survivors include three sons, David Hammons and his wife Kay of Berryville, Dewey Hammons and wife Jean of Tulsa, Okla., and Stephen Hammons of Berryville; one daughter, Carolyn Larkin and her husband Clyde of Siloam Springs; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herbert Hammons of California and Jessie Hammons of Tulsa; and one sister, Dorothy Newby, of Tulsa.
