MILDRED CHLOERENE BURKS, a resident of Green Forest, was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Metalton, a daughter of Jesse Hugh and Annie (Hawkins) Gage. She died Jan. 9, 2008, in Green Forest, at the age of 87.

Mrs. Burks was a member of the Huntsville Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by three sons, L.N. Burks and his wife Kay of Huntsville, Billy Burks and wife Carolyn of Springdale, and Lonny Burks and wife Connie of Harrison; one daughter, Mickey and her husband Tom Wilson of Green Forest; three sisters, Reva Grogan of Thermopolis, Wyo., Mary Shrum of Henderson, Nev., and Oleta June Raz of Harper, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

On Aug. 3, 1940, she was united in marriage with Lewis Newton Burks, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded by her parents; two brothers, Paul Gage and Jesse Gage; one sister, Daisy Gilliam; and two infant daughters, Betty Jean and Shebia Burks.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Moore Cemetery with Pastor Larry Montgomery and Elder Tom Wilson officiating under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
