He was graduated from Northwestern High School near Kokomo, served in the U.S. Army for three years, worked at Delco Radio in Kokomo, attended Indiana University and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, was head teacher at Hindsville Elementary School until its closing, and taught sixth grade science at Huntsville Middle School. He served twice as president of Huntsville Classroom?Teachers Association. Beginning in 1984, he operated a motorcycle training school, first alone and later with his daughter Kendra. During his final years of teaching he also drove a school bus, taught four-wheeler and hunter safety classes, and wrote safety and editorial columns for Ride a Motorcycle magazine.
He is survived by his wife, Sharron Johnson?Croddy, of the home; one daughter, Kendra Catherine Marie Croddy, of Huntsville; one brother,?Donald D. Croddy, of Kokomo.; and four sisters, Jean Ann Scott, of Kokomo, Kathleen Croddy of Shoal,?Ind., Roberta Croddy of Wardensville, W.Va., and Susan McVay, of Pullman, Mich.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday,?Jan. 5, in the Chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home, 4520 N. Crossover Road,?Fayetteville. Motoryclists who wish to join the tribute ride for him may meet at 12:30 p.m. at Valley Inn?Restaurant in Hindsville and ride to the memorial.
