J. C. HOBBS, 80, of Republic, Mo., died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, in St. John's Hospital -- Springfield. He was born April 9, 1927, in Berryville, to Rev. Gaile "Jack" and Ruth (Howard) Hobbs. He married Mary R. Owen, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage in August 2007.

Mr. Hobbs was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in China during WWII, and was a member of the Republic VFW. He was a truck driver with the former Campbell 66 Express, retiring after 25 years of service. He attended the Republic First Baptist Church and was a member of the B.P.O.E. of Springfield. Fishing and boating were his hobbies.

His parents preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Mary, of the home; a daughter, Jeanne (Shepherd) Sapp, of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren and their spouses, Kristi L. and Tim Delawder, Laurie R. and John Smither, and Steven L. and Tiffany Hester, all of Springfield; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ressie (Hobbs) Hatfield and husband, Jack, of Berryville; nephew, Larry Hatfield; niece, Cathy Estepp, both of Berryville; and many other members of his extended family.

Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at the First Baptist Church, Republic, with Rev. Steve Ward officiating, under direction of Meadors Funeral Home, Republic. Burial followed in Patterson Cemetery, Nixa.
