ELMER W. SPITZE, 87, of Lincoln, Ill., died at his home on Dec. 26, 2007. He was a son of Wesley H. and Nora Stullken Spitze and was born in Berryville on May 16, 1920.

Mr. Spitze was a retired union electrician. He was reared on a farm at Berryville and graduated from Berryville High School with the class of 1938. He was inducted into the army at Camp Robinson on Aug. 25, 1942, was a member of the 447th Army Coast Artillery and attained the rank of staff sergeant.

Mr. Spitze was a member of First United Methodist Church and Lincoln Lodge No. 210 and a 50-year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

On Feb. 14, 1942, was was united in marriage to Jean Gentry. She preceded him in death on Aug. 24, 1969. He married Bettie Dexter on May 26, 1974, and she survives him of the home.

He is also survived by one son, Charles and his wife Roberta Spitze of Weare, N.H.; one daughter, Jeanette and her husband Amiya Das of Champaign, Ill.; one step-son, Duane and his wife Brenda Dexter of Lincoln, Ill.; one stepdaughter, Glenda Jean and her husband, Phillip Brown of Chesterton, Ind.; one brother, Robert and his wife Hazel Spitze of Urbana, Ill.; one sister, Dora Grace and her husband Nolan McCall of Berryville; one sister-in-law, Doris Spitze and her daughter, Loretta of Berryville; two grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Gracie McLoud Spitze, who raised him; his first wife; one brother, Gerald Spitze; and one stepson, Ben Dexter.

A private family service will be held at Camp Butler Cemetery in Springfield, Ill. with Rev. Billy McCall and Rev. John Nelson co-officiating, under the direction of Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home of Lincoln, Ill.
